“We all die. The goal isn’t to live forever, the goal is to create something that will.”

  • Why Aknaira?
Ak = Alaska; my dream, my heaven. Naira = “big eyes”; people used to call me that
  • What is this blog about?
Well, I started this blog before leaving for my exchange year in 2014. I wanted to keep a journal so people back home could “follow” my adventure without bothering me with too many questions (just kidding). I’ve actually recently jumped into this cause I wanted to read some of my articles and I’ve decided to get back into this writing-world. Or at least, try.
  • Which language am I gonna use for my articles?
It depends. I’ll write in Italian if I feel like writing in Italian, and so I will do with English. It doesn’t really matter to me if people are actually gonna read whatever I write (I don’t wanna sound rude, it’s just the way I am), I mostly write for myself and that is what counts. I’ll try to put the translation tho.
  • What do I do with my life?
Since I had the opportunity to spend a year abroad on an Exchange program as student and ambassador of Rotary, that experience developed my passion for international and intercultural relations, human rights, civil rights and poverty with a special interest in LGBTQ and Gender equality, inspiring me to pursue post-secondary education in International Studies and Global Affairs at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan.
  • How would I describe myself as?
Funny, awkward, kinda smart. I love reading, writing and traveling. I used to play the piano. I listen to Chopin and Rachmaninov, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Eddie Vedder. I love nature, wolves, snow, full moon and cold nights.

I first decided to delete what I wrote three years ago, but I then realised how important it is to let it written, as a reminder of who I was:

My journey on October 15th, 2013. After a series of requests, worries, conversations, fights, I’ve convinced my parents. First document, letter of presentation attached to the application form for the Youth Exchange Program. Well, I will attend my fourth school year abroad. Do I wanna leave? So bad. Scared? Man, way too much. Through this blog I will write about me, about my worries, fears, joys, meetings and so on. I’ve nothing else to tell you other than … Safe travels!
